Hughes athletes delivered an impressive performance at the CMAC League Track and Field Meet, with the girls team finishing as runner-up overall and the boys team earning a strong third-place finish. Throughout the meet, Hughes competitors showcased determination, teamwork, and personal growth while earning top finishes, personal bests, and season-best performances across multiple events.
The boys team was led by several standout performances in the field events. Kei’mon Staples earned third place in both the shot put and discus, throwing 37’1.5” in the shot put and 99’0” in the discus. Jayme Wilmont added another strong finish in the discus, placing second with a throw of 100’3”. Malachi Hunter recorded a personal record in the shot put with a mark of 33’11”, good for fifth place.
On the track, Hughes relay teams continued to shine. The boys 4x800 relay team of Malachi Hall, Jeffrey White, Cinsear Stollings, and Jaden Turner captured first place with a season-best time of 9:03.01. The boys 4x400 relay team also secured first place, running a season-best 3:41.96 behind the efforts of Bryce Mitchell, Jeffrey White, Nehemiah Engleman, and Cinsear Stollings. The 4x200 relay team of Charles Roberts, Bryson Mitchell, Nehemiah Engleman, and Devon Brown added another podium finish by taking third place in 1:36.91.
Individually, several boys athletes turned in outstanding efforts. Cinsear Stollings placed fourth in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 53.76. Devon Brown sprinted to third place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.37. Jaden Turner earned third place in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:13.99, while Chaseton Gamble also competed well in the event, finishing 11th. In the distance races, Malachi Hall placed second in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:20.30, and Anthony Sterling ran a season-best 13:55.41 to finish 10th. Jeffrey White placed fifth in the 1600 meters with a season-best 5:38.41, while Anthony Sterling added an 11th-place finish in the same event. Ziyan Wallace showed consistency in the hurdles, finishing seventh in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Charles Roberts also contributed in the field events with a long jump mark of 16’6”.
The Hughes girls team also produced an outstanding showing highlighted by several championship performances. The girls 4x200 relay team of Andrea Weathington, Shahada Tidwell, Abriyel Opoku, and Amiyah Foster captured first place while running a season-best time of 1:46.62. Amiyah Foster had an exceptional meet individually, winning the 400-meter dash and placing second in the long jump with a leap of 16’0.5”.
Keyshayla Staley turned in strong performances in the hurdles, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. Andrea Weathington added a seventh-place finish in the 100 meters, while Abriyel Opoku earned third place in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 27.33.
In relay competition, the girls 4x100 team of Jael Ratney, Keyshayla Staley, Mi’Sean Stone, and London Dartis placed sixth. The girls 4x400 relay team of London Dartis, Dariyah Jacobs, Keyshayla Staley, and Shahada Tidwell earned fifth place.
The girls distance runners also had a strong day. Qu’Niyah Estill and Dariyah Jacobs placed sixth and seventh in the 800 meters. Estill continued her successful meet by placing sixth in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200 meters.
In the throwing events, Shahada Tidwell earned second place in the discus, while Ra’Niyah Hill finished fourth in both the discus and shot put.
The CMAC League Meet was a tremendous success for Hughes Track and Field. With multiple first-place finishes, personal records, and season-best performances, both the boys and girls teams demonstrated the hard work and dedication they have shown all season long.
